WEEE Recycling

About WEEE:

All retailers of electrical and electronic goods must comply with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) legislation (S.I. No.340 of 2005 as amended by S.I. 149 of 2014).

Co-Op Superstores are very happy to implement the current WEEE Directive to ensure that old appliances are disposed of in a safe manner thereby reducing any harmful effects to the environment. A take back service operates both in our Co-Op Superstores or from your home following online purchases.

Recycling  WEEE and Batteries:
WEEE and waste batteries must never be placed in your waste disposal or recycling bins. WEEE is taken back free of charge at electrical retail outlets on a one-for one like-for-like basis. Local authority civic amenity facilities also take back WEEE and waste batteries free of charge. [There is a bin for small batteries in your local Co-Op Superstore.]. WEEE and waste battery recycling is free.

Recyling Following Online Delivery of New Product:
If we deliver to your home we will aim to provide 24 hours’ notice of the delivery so you can ensure that your old WEEE is ready for collection. There is no charge for this collection service. If we are unable to provide you with 24 hours’ notice we will return within 15 days (on 24 hours’ notice) to collect your old WEEE. We would ask that your old product has been safely disconnected and that it is in a fit state to take away before we arrive. Built in / integrated appliances should be disconnected and completely removed from their housing and refrigeration appliances should be fully defrosted and free of water. Gas cookers should be disconnected by Gas Safe registered engineers.
